A report has found there have been three deaths due to ‘missed cancers’ at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust over the past three years.
A Freedom of Information (FOI) request by Medical Negligence Assist (MNA) confirmed three patients had died at the Trust since 2021.
The Trust said it could not be confirmed if these deaths were due to a ‘wrong diagnosis', or a ‘failure’ or ‘delay’ in diagnosis
A spokesperson for County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, said caring for patients who are suspected to have cancer is one of their top priorities.

They said: “Caring for patients where there is a suspicion of cancer is one of our top priorities.
“When cancer is missed or a diagnosis delayed, we have robust processes in place to investigate and are open and honest with those affected, offering our sincerest apologies.
“We also learn and make any changes which may be required to ensure the safety of our patients.”
